We recently announced the well-deserved appointment of Sarah Flynn as a Director of RfM’s office in Pilling, Lancashire. Here, Sarah shares the story of her accountancy career journey – up to now…
Rather than go to college after leaving school, I decided I wanted to study for a profession but also get some real-life, practical work experience – and a wage! So at age 16, I started working towards my AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification as an accounting apprentice at a reasonably-sized firm in Lancashire.
After successfully passing my AAT exams and gaining lots of valuable on-the-job experience, it was time to reach for the next step up the ladder: becoming a fully-qualified Chartered Accountant. Following a lot of hard work and years of studying, I became ACA accredited. Having now practised for over 10 years, I will shortly be recognised with ACA fellowship status.
I held a variety of in-practice accountancy and audit roles before joining RfM Accountants around nine years ago, originally at the Preston office and then at RfM Fylde (Pilling) where I became a Manager. Here I found a place where my skills and experience could really make a difference to our clients, my colleagues and the practice as a whole.
I’m a detail person, and I like to be hands-on when working with our clients, many of whom are smaller businesses who value that extra level of support and guidance. Most importantly, I find they appreciate being able to deal with a friendly face who really understands their business and what they need from their accountant.
As for the future, I’m looking forward to supporting even more of our clients in my role as Director.
